Rise and Shine, Homeowners!
The city of West Lafayette has changed their trash pickup routes on Thursdays, bringing them through Blackbird Farms shortly after 7:00am. If your trash and recycling is contained in rigid containers (cans or totes), you may place them out after 5:30pm on Wednesdays; if your items are in bags, or are easily accessible to cats, possums or raccoons, please place them out on Thursday mornings before 7:00am. The city has cameras on their trucks, and has informed us that they will begin charging homeowners if they must make a special trip to pick up late trash!
As a reminder, the neighborhood Covenants (Article V, Sect. 21) state that trash cans and recycle bins must be stored out of view of other homes and the street, except when placed at the street for collection. Please do not leave your trash and recycling containers in front of your garage door or around the side or back of the house.
Attention All Dog Walkers
West Lafayette City Ordinance (4-4, 4-11) includes a fine for dog walkers who do not clean up their dog’s waste in others’ yards and common areas. Please clean up after your dog and dispose of the bag. Do not leave the bag in common area walkways, or in others’ yards. Bags are being left around the neighborhood, making their way into storm drains and into the pond. These bags are harmful to not only the environment, but also to pond fish and wildlife.
Blackbird Farms Annual Neighborhood Garage Sale
The 2021 Blackbird Farms Garage sale was again a successful one! The annual event, held the weekend when Purdue students are moving back to campus included several families, and a LOT of outside visitors! Many thanks to Kelsey Daubenmier and Erin Gildersleeve for co-chairing this event! Proposed date for next year’s sale is Saturday, August 20, 2022.
Resident Lawn Care and Upkeep
The Board of Directors strongly encourages all residents of Blackbird Farms to mow regularly, and control dandelion and weed growth in their lawns. We have received comments from homeowners regarding neighbors who are not caring for their lawns in accordance with the neighborhood standards and expectations. Lawn maintenance is a very important step in keeping and improving our home values in Blackbird Farms. If you are uncertain about the expectations for lawn and/or property upkeep, please contact the HOA at blackbirdfarmshoa@gmail.com
2021 West Lafayette Leaf Collection
This year, the City of West Lafayette will be collecting leaves each week, on the day prior to garbage collection—which is Wednesdays for BBF. Collection will run from October 4 to December 17.
As you begin raking your yard, please follow these guidelines:
1. Leaf piles should be in a windrow, 12 inches away from the curb line
2. Avoid blocking bike lanes. If necessary, pile leaves between the curb and sidewalk
3. Keep leaf piles free of debris and sticks. They can clog or damage the leaf vac
4. Keep catch basins free of leaves to allow for drainage during rain events
Leaves can also be placed in rigid containers for the normal yard waste collection. For more information: https://www.westlafayette.in.gov/topic/index.php?topicid=249&structureid=18

Next meeting is September 9, 2019 at the clubhouse at 7pm.
Please clean up after your dog and be sure to dispose of the bag. Some bags are being left around the neighborhood and we need to make sure this doesn't happen any more. Neighborhood rules and regulations require that trash cans not be left out in a visible area of the homeowners yard. Please be sure to keep trash cans in the garage and/or out of site when it is not trash day.
Yard signs and trailers parked for indefinite periods are prohibited. If you have a yard sign or a trailer please correct this as not only a courtesy to the neighbors but to keep within the HOA regulations.
Please check the website in the next week to view additional items to be addressed at the September meeting which will be an informational meeting for the membership (that is you and your neighbors).
Mailboxes are moving forward for the final wave--installation is anticipated before the end of summer (fingers crossed). With this project effective 12/2018--any new mailboxes which are installed, or modified must match the ones the HOA has purchased and installed to keep uniformity and aesthetics in place. After the final installation any costs related to an installation or replacement will be at the expense of the homeowner. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and participation in keeping BBF a great neighborhood to live in.

Blackbird Farms HOA Annual Neighborhood Garage Sale
The Annual Garage sale is typically held in August 22, 2020, when Purdue Students are moving back to campus. It is usually from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is usually no charge or a very minimal fee.
Resident Lawn Care and Upkeep
We as the Board of Directors would like to strongly encourage all residents of Blackbird Farms to mow regularly and control dandelion and weed growth in their lawns. We have heard comments from people visiting Blackbird Farms on how our residents are not taking care of their Lawns as we once did. If we want to keep and improve on our home values in Blackbird Farms, lawn maintenance is a very important step.
Proper Disposal of Grass Clippings, Leaves, and Branches
The West Lafayette Street and Sanitation Department has asked that we post the following information:
" 1. As of July 1, 2013, the City does not collect grass clippings with weekly yard waste. The City is encouraging residents to recycle their grass clippings by leaving them on their lawn, using them as mulch, or composting them. Grass clippings are an excellent source for providing nutrients to the soil, reducing the need to fertilize your yard. "
" 2. Leaves and other short, loose yard debris should be placed in rigid containers for collection on your normal yard waste collection day. The leaf vac is scheduled to run in the fall when most of the leaves drop from the trees."
" 3. Branches should be no longer than 4 feet and no more than 4 inches in diameter."
" 4. We do not pick up dirt or sod. These items can be very heavy, putting our employees at risk for injury."
For further information, visit the Street and Sanitation Department website or call their office at 765-775-5242.
